Aarakshan, Petrol Price And WE THE PEOPLE

I have never liked reading newspapers, but off-let I have been reading them a lot - thanks to the boring writers in literature, who have failed to come up with any exciting new novel to stick my zip on!

It’s ironic though that newspapers are not the only medium of knowing things, absurdly, anymore and all these social media sites, BBM, Whatsapp and what not have become key components in spreading the news – albeit half of the population talking about it don’t know the reasons and just curse around the causes. For e.g. a rise in the petrol price yesterday have attracted high level of criticism across India but sorry to say most of us are acting like real un-educated pigs!

In a conversation with a friend, I was preached that Government puts a lot of taxes on the oil import and that is the reason why petrol prices are increased – REALLY? Is that the knowledge level we have?

I mean c’mmon, when India is dependent on importing about 70% of its oil consumption from different countries around the globe it surely doesn’t have the liberty of putting taxes and hamper the imports. In-fact, the Government has been giving out subsidies(please get in touch with me in case you don't know the meaning of this word) for donkey years to the oil companies such as OIL, ONGC and HPCL in order to make petroleum available to the general masses at an affordable price. But for how long can one do that?

It is kind of ironic that we don’t want to pay even Rs. 1000 as tax but expect all the roads to be built, transportation to be world class and commodities to be cheaper. Can someone please suggest, how in earth the Government is supposed to run the country when it receives no contribution from its own people?

Now a general and a pathetic answer would be – Why should we? Why not the rich ones? Well, that is precisely why there is a cap on the money earned packages in the tax system and everyone pays equivalent to what they earn – simple mathematic but arrogant minds fail to accept it!

The government buys the fuel for us from the market and has to pay the bills for the same and charges you the money only for the services that it is providing you!

That brings me to another issue that we all (especially women) have been busting their asses on
without knowing a heed about it i.e. Reservation!

There is already a cap of 27% reservation on the SC/ST/OBC in the total population (without discrimination on the basis of gender) but still women are crying about the bill to be passed in Lok Sabha which dictates 33% reservation for them. For heaven’s sake, let’s not fight for it in real!

It is kind of sad to see the Reservation being made for SC/ST/OBC, simply because it is a faulty process to guarantee justifiable solutions. In the yearly examination of UPSC and any other state’s Civil Services, the cut-off list for SC/ST/OBS is normally about 7% lower than that of general category (not to mention the un-limited chances that they get to appear in the exam till whatever age they want to – general ones are allowed only 4 till the age of 30). Many argue with this fact that, they are normally the people who have been deprived of education, healthy environment and proper guidelines to be able to achieve things through normal structure. But, trust me when I say, that I can take a piss on it longer than Raavana did in Ramayan and create a world record no one could beat!

Why?

Imagine A (who is a SC but rich and B who is of general quota but poor), both born in Andaman Island where there is only one school to attend to. They both go there and pass with flying colors. Then they go to higher secondary and then to college, only one available, with same set of facilities available to them. Finally, when they come to senses, they want to give UPSC examination or any other state services and here A (who is a SC but has rich background) is given unlimited attempts and B has only 4 till he turns 30.

How justified is reservation here, when both have come out from the same system and endured to same facilities that were available?

Shouldn't it be more on Class rather than Caste?

Irony ends not only here, as the Government has approved 4.5% reservation within this reservation for SC/ST/OBC in Government jobs that guarantees job to may be the most un-deserving candidate one can ever come across to.

The idea of this blog is not to support or criticize Government or any constituent of society but to ask people if they really know what they are talking about in their general life and playing any constructive role in solving out the issues.

Look forward to your comments!
